The True Meaning of the Word...

ROMANTIC. I'm not sure if my brain is wharped from watching too many soap operas or from reading romance novels but I used to think being romantic meant whispering sweet nothings in a person's ear, flowers, and sexy lingerie. All that stuff is over-rated these days.

Now don't get me wrong, a bouquet of yellow roses will float my boat anyday but I think my views on the real meaning of being romantic have changed a bit. (Any ideas on how to let him know I really like flowers???) I always thought I had to have all those other things to feel loved or important. I now know that isn't so. I'm learning that Josh shows me he cares about me by opening my door, finding me a chair to sit in when all the other guys' girlfriends are standing. He makes me feel important when he offers me his only beer coozie which means he goes without. (stop laughing, I thought it was sweet!)

This whole dating thing is wonderful and anxiety-provoking all at the same time. I'm learning more and more about myself everyday. I'm opening up little by little. He saw me cry for the first time a week or so ago. I expected him to dump me then and there. You know what he said, "Crying is normal. There's no reason to feel weak or embarassed about it." Of course that just made me cry some more because besides my therapist and of course a few of my close friends, nobody has ever told me it was ok to cry. I think I'm sold,ya'll! (I know to be careful and take it slow.)

Call me a simple gal but I think all the things you listed Josh doing ARE romantic. The other crap is all and "soap opera" fluff. To this day Allen still opens my door and makes sure I have somewhere to sit....I"m sure I'd get his beer coozie too if I drank beer! LOLOL

I've gotten flowers from my hubby 4times in our almost nine years together. The ones I remember the most are the ones he bought me the week before we were engaged. 2 dozen red roses in the sparkliest vase I have ever seen, with a note inside that read "for every petal on these roses, I have thought of you at least once today." Made me cry.

The second most romantic thing was the day after our son was born. He got me a beautiful cameo locket with a mother holding a baby on the front. The card read something to the effect of, you are my soul, and we now share a heart, our beautiful son, thank you for the most special gift I have ever recieved.

Now, He does nice stuff for me all the time, but I LOVE that I don't get stuff like THAT all the time, because it wouldn't mean so much, you know??

Josh sounds like good people. Glad things are going well.

Hi,
I found you by googling for "life bowl cherries +meaning". ;-)
Now that I have read this post, I hope everything's alright on the romantic side of life, and that you fired your therapist for not telling you that crying is ok!
All the best!

My friend and I were recently discussing about how technology has become so integrated in our day to day lives. Reading this post makes me think back to that debate we had, and just how inseparable from electronics we have all become.

I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Ethical concerns aside... I just hope that as the price of memory falls, the possibility of copying our brains onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's one of the things I really wish I could encounter in my lifetime.
